Can I Freeze Cookie Dough And Transport It?

Asked by GirlDoc. Answered on 13th June 2025

Full question

I am going to a family reunion. Two days in one site and then 2 days at another. I wanted to make Chocolate Chip Cookies at the 2nd venue but was concerned about the dough being old. Can I freeze the dough at home, keep it in the fridge at venue number 1 for 2 days and then bake it at venue number 2? Or just keep it in the fridge for 5 days?

Our answer

Nigella's Chocolate Chip Cookies (from KITCHEN) are fat cookies that have a soft, fudgy interior. Most cookie doughs made with eggs will keep, unbaked, in the fridge for up to 3 days and also freeze well.

We would suggest making the cookie dough and freezing it, then transporting it to the first venue and letting it thaw in the fridge at that point. Keep it chilled for the two days then transport it to the second venue and bake immediately. The baked cookies will then keep in an airtight container for up to 5 days. We don't know how long the travel time is in between each site, but would emphasise that the cookie dough absolutely must be kept chilled at all times while it is transported and stored, so you need to make sure that you have a cooler and sufficient ice or cold packs to keep the dough cold as you travel. Ideally you would form the raw dough into balls and then freeze it following the instructions at the bottom of the recipe. However, if you are transporting the dough then it may be easier to pack the dough into a resealable container. When you come to bake the cookies, let the dough stand at room temperatre for about 30 minutes so that softens slightly, then form the cookies using a scoop and bake straight away.
